Vendu a partir de 1984,un des premier portable a cristaux liquide affichant 25 lignes sur 80 colonnes;

Avec une autonomie de 6H et une visibilité exceptionnelle en plein soleil.

En 1985, Toshiba lança le tout premier ordinateur portable grand public, le T1100.

C'était le premier ordinateur portable compatible IBM au monde intégrant un ensemble de base de fonctionnalités qui allaient servir de référence pour les ordinateurs portables au cours des années suivantes.

Le T1100 était équipé de batteries rechargeables internes, d’un écran LCD, d’un lecteur de disquette 3,5 pouces et il était compatible IBM.

Il ne possédait cependant pas de disque dur et son écran monochrome n'affichait qu'une résolution de 640x200. Tous ça pour un prix de $1899 USD.

Les ingénieurs de Toshiba ont effectué des tests de grande envergure afin de garantir que le T1100 pouvait supporter le simulateur de vol Microsoft Flight Simulator qui était à l’époque le jeu vidéo en vogue.
